today announced that Don Baylor
has been named the 46th manager in club history. The announcement
was made by vice president/general manager Ed Lynch.
Baylor, 50, joins the Cubs after spending the
1999 season as the hitting coach for the National League-champion
Atlanta Braves. He went to the postseason for the ninth time
during his career (seven times as a player, once as a manager,
once as a coach).
Notes:
The new man: Even though I
hate the Cubs with all my heart it is good to see that they went
out and got themselves a good manager. Don Baylor is a big
name that will bring some respect to Chicago and the Cubs.
But besides that, I still despise them.
Wrigley: There is one other
thing I like about the Cubs and that is their stadium. It
has kept its original structure. Being old school like I am
I appreciate Wrigley. What I like even more is the
neighborhood. A young mans dream of drinking establishments
and good food.
